LED lights

Hello I haven’t been here for awhile but would really like to have suggestions on LED grow lights. My grow area accommodates about 8 plants and I’m really looking to switch from my MH and HPS to save energy and produce less heat. I truly appreciate all comments. Thanks in advance!

    • Check out Grow Light Science.

For the money, they're hard to beat.

I have 4 of the GLS 300, and love them.

      • Welcome back Sheryl. I use vipar spectrum xs2000 x 2,  xs1000,  and a KS 3000. They are all good lights.  You can't go wrong looking at Hlg or even spider farmer is dialed it in nice. Most of the named outfits have very nice lights.

I think as others jump in you will have more content and can make an educated choice.

My vote is for the inexpensive but very nice KS, an XS series from Viparspectra. 😁

        • Welcome to weedportal Sheryl! lots of indoor LED growers on here. I own a Spiderfarmer and an HLG (Horticulture Light Group) those are some top brands for the money! there are a ton of great new LEDs available. I posted a video of a youtube grower using Spiderfarmer just a few mins ago

          • I made the switch 2 grows ago and i have no regrets. However, I traded 2 1000W HID's and a 400w HID for 3 true 500w LEDs with hopes of lowering my electric bill and there was no significant change in my electric bill unfortunately. I saw a huge change in bud density when I originally switched from LED's to HID's so I was worried the switch back would result in looser buds but I put that fear to rest on the 1st grow under LED's. The Crescendo buds are like rocks and Glookies buds are like granite.

My advise is to look at the PPFD maps and ignore what ever the flowering foot print they claim. If  they dont put out at least 500 PPFD at the outer edges of the grow space then they dont actually cover the area they claim, not that they wont grow and finish at the perimeter but you will notice a difference between the buds in the center and the ones at the outer edges.

            • Hey Sheryl & welcome to the portal. I'm no expert on LED's, I switched over to LED lighting 3 or 4 grows ago. I got a Spider Farmer 4000 after a lot of research. I didn't buy the best LED out there nore the worst but one that is in the middle of the road as far as performance combined with cost. I'm perfectly happy with the Spider Farmer. Good luck on your quest for a light!

              • welcome back sheryl i run the hlg scorpions and one 600 r spec in my tents. they are a bit pricey. they have come a long ways with the led. do your homework for sure and check the ppfd like cpw suggested. gl

                • This meter is what I bought to use. It does cost though. No more guessing.  It gives PPFD and DLI (daily light intake)

                  • I’ve been using 2 of the Mars Hydro TSW2000W for a couple years now and am very pleased. I have learned that when it comes to lights get the best you can afford. Light is what they want most of all.

                    • I have to Kind Leds and have been very happy with them.  Wish my growing skills would catch up with the quality of light.  Tons of great info on here and welcome back to the Portal!!

                      • You don’t need a massive led light to get a good yield either my led is only rated at 400w and I only have one switch even on most of the time.

it makes me think the high dollar name brand light company’s are just out to swindle money from people.

                          • Mars Hydro 2000w only draws 300w from the outlet. Reflective shield disperses heat very well. Great if you’re a budget grower.
