Scrog

Thinking about buying some trellis netting for my first scrog. Then I thought it would be better if I made my own dbl decker….so my question is why are some nets I see on commercial grows look like they just threw it on top like they were mullet fishing and others pulled so tight you can play music on it. Is there a benefit to one vs the other? Thanks Portal peeps

    • I make my own frames out of pvc pipe and hold them at the height I want with zip ties, the bailing wire of modern times and next grow I will put a 3 way fitting on the ends so I can add a 2nd layer if I need to. I have made and bought nets but 2 grows ago I started using the green pvc coated fencing and zip tie it to the frame and its working great for me. I have yet to cut a wire with my fiskars and I could never use a string net twice

          • I made my own net out of wood and used masons string to make the grid. I have tried other string and twine but the masons string is very strong and easily moved and the best thing is that it doesn't cut or damage your plants.

              • I made mine from 1” sch 40 pvc.  Have it hung from frame of the tent and height can be adjusted if needed.  Using the white string trellis from Home Depot.  Have got two runs out of one net so far.  Use green coated wire to secure branches where I want after fishing them thru the trellis.  I really feel the scrog let’s me see what’s going on much better than when I let them grow naturally.  I’m still learning a bunch so hope you enjoy!

                • And the homemade one is a lot better than a flimsy trellis!!!

                  • A net just thrown loosely over the plant is generally there to help the plant hold up it's colas. The tight ones are used to weave your branches and maintain a fairly even canopy.

                      • Big for me. 3 to 4 in and I'm just keeping my colas stable, not scrog.

                      • i make my scrogz with 1 1/2 to 2 inch squares..i just kinda eyeball it...i like to use some small self tapping metal screws...just drill a smaller pilot hole and use a screwdriver or a small socket (depends on what kinda screws ya using) and leave just a lil of the screw stickin out so u can wrap the string/twine around each screw a couple times as u weave  it back and forth from side to side.. keep pressure/tension on it to keep net tight...i have a couple pics of a small scrogs in one my albums pics
