Tricomb colors

I was reading a book by Ed Rosehthal about growing and he says that you should harvest as soon as you see the caps getting cloudy. This is the “peak” time to cut. He says cloudy and amber tricombs are signs that the THC is and has degraded.
I’ve always waited until a few turned amber before I cut. What do you think is the “peak” of ripeness for maximum THC?

      • I haven’t went by the tricomb color in a few years man, I alway go by the look of the whole plant in general. but I think most people wait till 10-20%% amber before they harvest.

I personally would recommend just waiting till all the hairs have turned red and all the cylaxs have swollen up, by that point the buds would have a killer high.

      • We did that for years in outside grows but now I do a couple things, When they look ripe and the hairs have drawn in I start checking trics, in hydro when the water level goes down and the PPM goes up they are in the window. Dont be afraid to cut a bud dry it and smoke it before you decide to chop it

        • It depends on what you want from the plant, if you want an Up high than I agree and by Up I mean heart racing if its a Sativa. Personally I never want that but you have to try harvesting at different times to know what you prefer. You dont have to harvest all at once either, I prefer to do it that way but its not a requirment

          • Josh and CPW are smart dudes !! For years OD, I always looked at the plants overall appearance. Trichome/resin production was something that we were not really looking at. We used to call harvest time "the peak of fluoresence" ! That's when the buds were big, stinky, resinous and ready to chop !! VERY FEW strains are gunna be ready before Sept 30. Make sure to keep them watered good for the last few weeks. Peace

            • One more thing ...a week or two isn't gunna make or break your harvest, unless it's just stupid early or late !! GL

              • Thank you for your help. I think I’ll stick to what I’m doing for now. I like my weed more on the middle to down side.

                •  Depends if I'm growing sativa, or Indica. Indicas I try to wait and get a little more amber. But I chop Sativas once I get about 75-80% cloudy, before amber sets in.

                  • The ones that are amber are degraded that's the only ones though...The idea is if you got a few amber that the others are cloudy or real close...I wait till I see some amber and then harvest...Its like many other things, to each his/her own...

it's impossible to look at all the trichomes...

                      • Personal preference. I want a smooth  more relaxed smoke, not necessarily the highest thc. Outdoors is a crap shoot, you can't always harvest at the right time.

                        • When you grow outside you should always watch the weather, plant in early spring an let mother nature do her thing! I planted this monster tree/bush second week of April an this picture is 9/15/2022!
