Growing for a living

I think it's safe to say a good majority of us on here absolutely love to grow weed for many different reasons, but has anyone tried or considered working for a company that actually grows medical? I have been researching jobs near me in the field and I'm a little supprised at the pay on the low side unless your one of the head honchos, but they say if you do what you love you will never work a day in your life.  I'm curious on your thoughts on this, there is big money on being a salesman of a product for growing but to actually grow it.  I sorta am building a resume and even dreamed about consulting people on how to start there own should it become recreational. I am just in my happy place when growing and I think it could actually give people who are on hard drugs an outlet to get off whatever there hooked on. Think about it I think it would help with the opiod crisis.

    • Unless you're lucky enough to get hired by a company that's just starting out, most jobs in a grow facility are working under the Head Grower, or their assistants. The cannabis industry is a lot like the golf course industry in that they pay the Super the big bucks to teach and run the crews. For instance the head grower might make $ 100,00  and their asst. $35000-$40000. TBS.. it's the head growers ass that's on the line!!!! 9 out of 10 grow facilities in the mid west anyway, that are getting started, usually hire out of town growers, usually from Colorado to run the facilities on start up. Many of whom don't even have a horticulture degree, but have years of experience growin commercially. Additionally most facilities don't want to hire an experienced grower to come in and "rock the boat!" I would just eval the situation and keep a low profile. if it's your passion good things will happen !!

      • Man once you said super I understood I worked for a company for a decade that repaired Toro machines and eventually I became a service advisor so I heard the horror stories super come and go every couple of years and they typically bring in there own people and kick the others to the curb guess it’s like fishing good to have an outlet from work and not so good to mix them thanks for the reply Chubbs

        • Imo the medical end would be the way to go right now. Put together strains to treat various ailments. Even if you're recreational legal the service would still be available.

                      • I have a business plan in place but I want to keep developing methods and strains before I really get it going. Plus I want to finish putting together a machine shop so I can automate a bit of it like pre-rolls and maybe trimming. Then I want something like an ice cream to cruise around neighborhoods

                          • Yep that got some wheels in my head spinning. I think in the end the big money for the little guy will be in selling the accessories until they are popular enough for one of the big guys to buy you out. in the mean time I am high as fuck so win/win

                          • I guess this goes along with the farming industry as a whole, for the farmer that has borrowed money for the land and equipment it really doesn't pay shit, and the farm hands get less but they risk less too.

                            • Like any good business you just have to find a niche.
