Fungal knats

Hi, could anyone recommend the best way to get rid of fungal knats from my grow tent? I have cleaned it out, used Neem oil , put aquarium gravel on top of the soil and I'm now watering them from the bottom only but the wee buggers are still multiplying.

Thanks.

    • I use hotshot hangers in mine.

      • Gnatrol or mosquito bits will kill the larvae in your soil. Both have bti in them and that is what kills the larvae. The flying ones are adults and they try to burrow into your soil to lay more eggs and the cycle repeats. Wack your pots and you'll see some gnats flying but they are slow. Kill them by hand or vacuum them up with a shop vac. Main thing is killing the larvae in the soil. They eat the roots, then turn into flying gnats and the cycle keeps going. You can also try a layer of diatomaceous earth on the top of your soil and bottom feeding helps too.

          • I've read that works but you should add micros back in after because they can't survive the H2O2.

          • couple inches of sifted sand for a top dressing...nothing can get in nothing can get out...sticky traps for the adults...

            • I use nematodes. They are nasty little F@#%ers. Put the pack at least 1 - 1-1/2 inches down in your pot's medium, water lightly so the pack does not float to the top. Once it's activated it will take about 5-7 days and they will start to hunt down the larva and eat them! The adults will start to die of and any larva they left will be eaten! Also throw some yellow stickies in to get rid of the adults a little faster.

              • A small bowel of water with some mosquito bits in it or just sprinkle the bits on the top of the soil/coco and you will never see them again

                • I've been there too many times, think it's because I have a septic tank and they come up though my drains. it made me go to DWC. now I don't see any little gnats anymore! thanks to everyone here on weedportal for that tip on clean growing and no bugs!!! as for now let them plants dry out, let then almost fall over wanting water before watering them. good luck
