Foxtails Anyone

I think I had a Rainbow Kush  stowaway in the RDWC this grow, opps. The buds on top and bottom are Mandarin Cookies V2 and the one in the middle is a Rainbow Kush, nothing but foxtails totally different smell. I dont think the bowl trimmer is going to work on that one but from what I have read they call those the "good" foxtails so we shall see and learn.

      • Very interesting never read about that. Did grow one last year and just thought it was what that “strain “ looked like. Since I grow outside was really interesting, thanks

        • Kush plants seem to be known for it and I think my heat problem augmented it.

          • those are my findings too! they seem to be a bit sensitive

          • now im no stranger to foxtails but are you sure that is the good kind? everyone always talks about the good foxtails and says theres good foxtailing and bad foxtailing but what makes it good or bad?  I believe certain  strains are more susceptible to foxtailing than other strains.

from my notes it shows my banana kush wanted to foxtail  and my recent OG Kush too!! also had it happen a bit with Tangie

            • The "good" ones look like these, the bad ones look like Charlie Browns Christmas Tree. From the pictures I have seen the bad ones are all pistils and no real bud. One thing I read said the plant stops building on the main flower and starts stacking on the foxtail so they kind of look like a glove with a little palm and long fingers. I had one plant in the back that looked like it was flipping me off.

The upside is they had almost no leaves to trim, but I will see how they smoke before I declare them good or bad. Worst case I will only grow Kush strains in the  cooler weather and save the Haze's for summer grows.

              • too much nitrogen in flower will do it...too much heat will do it...too much light will do it...genetics will do it...

                • thanks for responding. ive made some little tweeks to my current grow in 12/12. My brand of Calmag's NPK is 4-0-0 so im working to counter that by using magnesium sulphate instead of my normal calmag during flower. I think it would be great during veg. I know you need a just little N during flower but it seems like alot to me.

                  • Mine was no doubt the heat and genetics, the Mandarin Cookies came out perfect as far as bag appeal goes.  Both of them have a great smell and could end up my best grow so far, certainly my best RDWC grow.

Two things I did differently that may have helped is I let the plants sit dry until the wilted a little, that was less than an hour in veg and 6 hours at the last res change in flower. Then when I did each res change I ran the system with just the root nutes/supplement's for a day or two before adding the feed nutes.  I did a hard core schwazzing on both plants too. The Mandarin Cookies loved it, not sure about the Rainbow Kush because I had not grown it before.

Another thing I learned is to pick a strain I like and grow it over and over again until I get it dialed in "perfectly".

                  • There is so little to trim on those foxtails I decided to dry trim them so they are hanging now. Perfect drying weather up here now.

                    • Oddly enough the foxtails are really hard to find once they start to dry.

                      • I am no expert like you guys but from my experience and being from the region where KUSH was born… I too believe that some strains such as the KUSH is prone to foxtailing but two factors are influencers climate and NPK ratio…Just my thought

                        • That grow is one of the reason I added the C02 system, but I will say those kush buds are awesome smoke. I think there will come a time when Kush strains are all I grow.

                          • They were a pain in the ass to trim though
