    • Just wanted to clarify the PH range I would shoot for. I based this on the fact that "soil" by definition means field soil. Nobody uses that anymore. My #'s are base on mainly peat manufactured soils, that are acidic. BTW...It's been hotter that fuck in Missouri all week !!! Watering OD plants everyday...JEEEZ !!

      Growing Media

The production of greenhouse crops involves a number of cultural inputs. Among these, perhaps the most important is the type of growing medium used. Due to the relatively shallow depth and limited volume of a container, growing media must be amended to provide the appropriate physical and chemical properties necessary for plant growth.

Field soils are generally unsatisfactory for the production of plants in containers. This is primarily because soils do not provide the aeration, drainage and water holding capacity required. To improve this situation several “soilless” growing media have been developed. The following is a description of some of the most commonly used amendments for the production of greenhouse crops.

      • I agree with CPW and King, ph is to low.

        • @RJ be careful who you listen to. You have a grow media that you want at a specific pH for optimal growth, and you should be feeding the plants with a nutrient solution that is near that value. Typically, you’ll see 6.2 for soil, and 5.8 for hydro. In an ideal world, your first few feedings will be within 1 pH measure of that target, and after a few weeks will converge on that number. If this happens, good.

          • If you have good healthy roots PH doesnt matter as much but that plant clearly has a deficiency so is it not getting what it wants is the PH blocking it?

            • I grow in soil and keep it between 6.2-6.8 I will fluctuate each feeding and watering because the plant will uptake minerals at different PH levels.
