Light Mover

I bought a light mover for the SF200o in my 2 X 4 tent and it looks like it works as I thought it would. I dont know why anyone would want to run it at 12" off the canopy, if it were an easy bake oven the middle would be burnt and the edges would be raw. Anyway using the SF2000 chart and a light meter the sweet spot is in the center of the light and intensity drops as you move off the center proportionately. Now by moving the light the sweet spot is extended about 11 inches in both directions and the outer corners of the canopy are  getting enough intensity where they did not if it was in a fixed position.

This seems like a logical evaluation, but it makes me wonder why they dont make LED's the same size as a grow area instead of angling the LED's and making the light travel farther and less inter lapping. Maybe that is why they are making them wider and longer with bars of of LED's instead of blocks. We will see how it goes. Let me know if you think I am full of it, just on this not in general.

      •  What WP homies ! A light mover will double the size of the coverage area, if your using HID lights. Been there done that FOREVER ! As far as LED's go, I've not used a light mover YET ! I'm wanting to but I need a plan of action. I  also agree with building the lights to fit better in tents ! Heck... 4' T-5's, fit perfect in a 4x8 tent.

        • Good point on theT5's

Do your HID's have ducting to cool them? Over time how does the ducting to hold up to moving 4 feet back and forth ?

        • Hell 6 months or so ago people were telling me the SF lights were the greatest thing since sunlight, Very disappointing and all I had to do was compare the charts to the claims.

The bar lights are going to run the coolest and give better coverage, like any 2 lights side by side is better than one big light. The LED folks seem to be beginning to get that if you look at the spacing.  In my mind to get even coverage the light needs to be about the same size as the canopy otherwise the LEDS have to angle to cover anything outside of the foot print and then the light from the ones on the outer edges have to travel farther so the light dissipates as the  charts show.

Option B would be to clean out the LED closet and make room for the bar type LEDS and its back to HID's.

          • Hey Bro....

Just for shits and giggles, take a look at Photontech. They're supposed to be the US side of Lumitech.

Pricey, but I know you'll get off the cash if it looks worth it. If I had the cash, I'd buy one of these.

No disrespect to HLG and their quantum boards...but I'm with you, thinking bars make a better spread. Both of light, and heat.

            • Yep those are very nice, how much is an old left testicle worth these days? Still works but I dont use it much so for the right price, who knows.

The bar lights just make sense to me
