Soil Grows Outside, Top Dressing and LST

I have 2 photoperiods growing in 20 gallon bags of Ocean Forest and 3 autos in 7 gallon bags of Ocean Forest. They are all filled to about 3 inches from the top and doing pretty good. As I understand it I really wont need to add nutrients or supplements until the bloom phase unless I see a problem. So if I top off the bags later in veg will that be adding nutrients for the plants or just wasting soil?  Will the roots grow up into the new soil or do nutrients wash down to the roots or both?

Do you folks LST outside grows? Seems like a good idea same as indoor grows. What about defoi? The only bud rot or mold I have ever had was outside grows so it seems like airflow maybe more important outside.

It's not gunna effect the flowering stage. As far as roots are concerned you may get little or sometimes big advantageous roots that will grow off the main stem. Just like corn does.  Try to keep the Ocean Forest top dressing off the main stem. LST is an art form that good growers can take advantage of. Outside it's not a must, but it's fun to experiment with. Bamboo works good, as does fencing . Defol... NO unless you have yellowing leaves. The prob with out door growin and bud rot, is not so much air flow, but HIGH HUMIDITY and RAIN ! Air flow is important ! Last year in Missouri the weather was PERFECT for finishing out buds..IT DID NOT RAIN for the whole month of September ! Happy growin

      • I use OF all the time with happy frog first 2"  in each pot I have been germinating in final pots and find that I don't have to feed them until week 6 of veg roughly I only give them supplements and cal-mag depends on how fast they grow and your pots are bigger so might just be a load of crap.

        • I started these in cups for space reasons but I did put the OF on bottom and about 2 inches of the Happy Frog, I may add some Silica this week but I am not sure, they look great so maybe leaving them alone for now is the best idea.

          Thanks

        • Chubbys. Got your answer here.  I make compost teas and I only use RAIN WATER.  Inside and out.  Have a couple rain barrels.  I have made banana teas come flower time and they seemed pretty happy.  I don’t ever defo . Only if I see branch’s laying on top of each other with no air space what so ever.     This year,   I’m going to try alittle   LST.  Only to TRY a to keep them wider rather than taller.  Had just 1 plant get hit twice in a major wind storm and split her in every direction.  She wasn’t pretty and had more duct tape than Home Depot!!!  But boy did she pull some weight.  Talk about high stress.....  Definitely trying some bamboo steaks this year and with any luck I’ll be trimmin .

          • I have done a little LST on them the autos have been topped and super cropped the 2 photo periods really dont need any LST yet but I may do some super cropping to strengthen the branches and yes bamboo stakes are ready

            Thanks
