Soil Grows Outside

Hi Folks,

I knew you couldn't hide from me forever lol.

I have a couple of plants I am going to grow outside this summer, assuming we have a summer.  3 Lemon OG Haze Autos I germinated in Happy Frog, 1 Mandarin Cookie V2 in a 1 gallon bag of coco coir, and a Garlic Breath reveg also started in coco coir but transplanted to Happy Frog in a 2 gallon bag.  The Autos I plan transplant into 5-7 gallon bags of Ocean Grown and the 2 photo periods will drop into 10 gallon bags of Ocean Grown. Does anything about the plan seem wrong? I am not normally a soil grower but from what I have read, once they are established in the Ocean Grown I shouldn't have to feed them until they start to flower of I see they need something is that correct?

If the weather turns cold before the photo periods finish can I just put one of those cheap plastic green houses on them and hope they finish before it snows? They are not coming in the house, spider mites love to wintha in the grow room

    • i'd be a little cautious about using any growbags , planters under 20 gallons.as far as autos go, sure any planter, or growbag u want over 5 gallons. but i have always put my photoperiods 1st choice in the ground or second choice 20gallon bag or planter. lots of room for roots and it's a lot harder to steal a planter of 20 g or more.

        • and protect your grow container from the suns heat abit too, roots can cook in a bag or planter.

          • Thanks for the reminder, I have a big bag of diatomaceous earth. I think its a good preventative and then I spray Mighty from NPK a couple of times before flower and that seems to keep them away. The MId 80's is about as hot as it gets where I live, humidity is another story.

          • I use DE indoors and sprinkle it on my floors in the grow room as a first layer of protection. One thing about DE outdoors in my opinion if it absorbs moisture it loses its potency

            • Yes it does, the one time I used it in the house I had a spill and it was a freaking mess so I may have to apply it a few times outside. I dont want to hurt their little feet I want something that kills them and leaves them draped over a fence as if to say "dont come in here". This will also be a good test to see if high Brix makes bugs ignore them, assuming I can get the brix level high enough.

            • You have some excellent advice so far. If needed for cold weather, you can cover the plants with big garbage bags 55 gals. Tape the bottom together for better coverage. OD always spray preventatively while in veg. It sounds like you have that covered. Happy growin

                • Aubuchon the local hardware store had had a 30% off deal for curbside pick up so I have 2 more bags of Ocean Grown and I ordered some 20 gallon bags, so next week I will set these out.

                  Thanks Everyone

                  • I haven’t grown outdoors yet but I have a buddy that digs a hole in the ground and mixes in 2 bags of Ocean Forest per plant hole per year and that dude has great success last year he pulled 4 lbs or more off each plant he had!!

                    • Oh and ya I’ve heard that ocean forest can burn seedlings but I’ve had no problems with it doing that to my young ones.... they seem to thrive with ocean forest I pop all my seeds in it

                      • That is what I am using and its working great. When does your friend start feeding them?

                      •  I've never used bags or pots etc outside. Always dig huge hole ( whatever size my old body can handle ). X5 . Fill with my own worm dirt compost mixture ( another story ). Plant seeds directly. The only real problem I've ever had was termites , yes termites love the insides of the stalk . I've lost several plants over the years . The plant wilts and dies , inside will be 100's of termites .
