Can a Fridge Be Used As a Water Chiller

Another members post got me thinking. Couldn't a mini fridge with a couple of holes cut in it work for a water chiller in a recirculating system? Used mini fridges are cheap, they dont cost much and they dont put out anything like the heat a water chiller does. Just a thought

    • lol so;

      1.) get a mini fridge

      2.) drill two holes in it

      3.) Install reservoir

        • Thought about it a few times.

          I don't think I'd put the res in it, I'd run copper tubing in one side, coil it inside, and run it out the other side. Or hook the copper to a heat exchanger inside, that might give the water more time to cool?

          I've got a fridge to use, I just never worked out the details.

          • You could put the pump on a timer, I dont think it would matter if the water in a RDWC sets for a bit. Seems like it would work well for Ebb and Flow too.  Something to mess around with some other time

                • I hope we do a better job than they did reinventing the WP. Why isnt this on the same page as the question?

                        • That’s why I had to go back to DWC. Hard to keep h20 temps regulated.

                          • Consider coco, it has the same growth rate as DWC without the worries about root getting to hot.

                            • you can also cover the buckets so they dont absorb so much heat from the light

                              •  Yes the res needs to be covered for a lot of reasons, PH flux, bugs, kittens, and temps
