Can Heat Stress Shorten Flower Time

I have another round of Mandarin Cookie Clones going and they are just crossing the line into 7 weeks of flower. I think the predicted time in flower is 7-9 weeks but we all know how accurate that is. The mother plants took at least 9 weeks. However these plants where Schwazhed and then they went through a few days of nasty heat because I am stupid. Now the AC is out again so they had a couple more days of heat. The Trichs look fat and ready, the fan leaves look dead or dying. Is it possible they are actually ready 2 weeks before the mother was?

    • i believe if you start to count upon sight of first flower you will be real close to the breeders time.

      • So this is my 2nd grow with that sf led and I just chopped my WW @ 55 days...which has a 70/90 day flower suggestion...can't say it was the light but I really don't know what else...and I go  past 1st signs cause that is considered pre flower...maybe 5 to 7 days past 1st signs...but not complaining got a bc grapefruit x zamnesia grapefruit x c99 almost ready for flower...oh and I don't think heat will shortin flower time...mine didn't get out of the 70s....

        • Mine got into the mid 90's but the roots were in water that was a constant 72°

        • I think that is entirely possible. I have noticed when I grow in the summer that my plants seem to finish a little early. The heat in my grow room gets a little above where it should be and over the years I have seen the trend of shorter flowering times. I really paid attention to it on my Cali Orange grow and it did finish early.

          • The oils in the terps are supposed to protect the buds so they do produce more when its warmer but I wasnt sure about maturing faster. I guess I will chop a bit and see.

          • If you're growing hydro, and their estimate is for soil, you're gonna be a little quicker.

Depending on the strain, 2 weeks early is possible.

            • I also had heat stress for a couple of days. And now I'm looking at the trichomes, there's already amber there. Although they still have 2 weeks to bloom. It turns out that it really ripens faster in the heat.

              • I took a closer look and they are ready, problem is I am not. I think I will pop some Lemon OG Haze autos to try and get back on schedule. My first auto grow in the RDWC was so huge I think it changed the local climate. More leafs than Carter had little liver pills. So Auto Schwazing we will go, but a Haze shouldnt be too bad.

                • I never noticed grows going faster in the summer...but never really payed attention to it...and I don't keep notes like I used to...so maybe it does run quicker in the heat of the year...just didn't seem logical to me...didn't think about dro being faster than soil that does seem logical...so many variables...lights, temp, grow style ect...interesting!

                  • I dont know but I think RbtAsq has the best answer, its that they grow faster in hydro. I checked my last grow of the mothers and they were about the same time frame. I will say the ones growing outside in soil are moving slower than anything I have ever seen, I saw the first pistils 6 weeks ago and finally they started looking like buds.  Its been a very long preflower.

                  • What kinda heat are we talkin CPW ?  Like Izi observed, heat will increase resin production. TBS really high temps will cause the plant to shut downa, and trichs will suffer if you don't bring down the temps some how. A good sprayin down with cool water will help. IMO, heat will shorten flowering time, but at the expense of weight. ID heat can be a big prob, especially in the summer. AC's are a must but if the electricity goes out it's time for some creative thinkin !

                    • Hot air from the lights pushed it up to 90°+ for a  few days but the air is moving around well and the roots are kept at 73° by the chiller. I dont like spraying buds with water this late in the game. I did pull the humidity down to 30, that maybe too late. Hard to say
