We have to put our big dog down this week and its killing us. 11 years old is a long life for a Mastiff but the "well he lived a long time" really means nothing at the end. I think what sucks the most is his mind is still 100%, he's still a clown, loves attention and is eating all his favorites, so he is eating up being overly spoiled, but it rips my heart out to see him want to get up and do something but realizes he cant anymore. Sucks, thanks for letting me vent a little.
Those 2 will be a couple of heart breakers for many years to come.

I hear ya, Bro. I lost my English Bulldog last December, 2 days before her 12th birthday.
Still bawl like a baby when I think of her.

The joy of having a pet builds slowly to the heart crushing end. I dont know that I can do it again. My wife wants to rescue older pets that the owners have passed and no one else wants them. That is very admirable but I dont think I can handle it

You guys and girls that have lost a beloved pet are the BEST !! I can't even imagine what it must feel like. Dogs are so important for are well being ! It's hard to put into words . The love you guys have for dogs is one of the reasons I like WP so much !

This might sound ridiculous, but I had a chicken that thought she was a dog. She would follow me everywhere and always had to sit right up against me while outside. She would lay eggs on command and listened like a dog would. She got hit by a chicken hawk... that fucking chicken was the best damned dog I ever had.
