hlg recommends running there uv barsthe whole 12/12 cycle when i asked them about mine on the hlg lights

not according to hlg recommendation for there uv bars. i really do see much difference with or without them truthfully.i use to do them 4 hrs.a night until i talked to the hlg tech.

You may be able to run an LED uv because they are nowhere near as efficient as a fluorescent...

yeah I'm not really sure i just go by their specs, but they say start at the flip but i wait 3 weeks before i start.

Is your UV light an LED, or Florescent?
The LED UV are generally much weaker than the tubes.
That's how Spiderdog35 can run his the entire cycle. My tubes are only used for an hour or two, in the middle of the light cycle.
HLG has LED UV's. California Lightworks uses tubes.
Some people go really cheap and use UV's meant for reptile enclosures.
