Leaf problems

Alright, so this is my first grow in hydro and only second grow. I’m currently using a rdwc from pa hydroponics with a water chiller set at 68. It’s 4x4 Mars hydro tent with ac infinity 4 in and 6 out. I have 2 Mars hydro sp 3000.one is set at 30 and the other is 24(lower canopy).they are currently set at 75dim.so the plants popped 3 weeks ago. One plants stem is 3 times the size of others, also has most roots. My first mistake was I followed fox farm trio feeding schedule from day I put them in system (full strength ). Think that’s why three are smaller.also don’t think trots were developed enough before putting them in rdwc. Ph stable at 6.1. Currently using fox farm trio, ff sledgehammer with weekly(also flushed once during feeding), and kangaroots, and calmag. Ijust added a dose vitamin b from advanced nutrients. Originally ppm was 900 when I started, cut back and currently its ppm is 400 after last res change. So here is my problem have had a few issues with large plant - first leaves seamed more lime than green. That improved, next problem leaves were getting tiny brown spots on them. Now I’m noticing leaves have holes and weird growth. These are zkittles auto’s. Not sure if I’m missing something. Temps 79, humidity was mid 50s. Sorry for long post.

    • You've just about thrown the kitchen sink at them,  havent you?? and theyre only three weeks old? id like to see more pictures of the ones with problems.  my first impression is you're adding way too many supplements for no real reason! Try to keep things simple.

      • I did lower nutrition after 1st res change - ppm to 410, that’s when this one started showing weird leafs - wilted toward center. Added cal mag due to brown spots. Have 3 others that really looked weak- so added some b12 and rhino skin per suggestion. Was following feeding schedule of fox farm for rest. According to fox farm supposed to use sledgehammer weekly with rdwc

        • These are plants. Of coarse I chopped leaves with brown spots already. The other 3 are just starting to come around. They all popped within a day or 2.

          • Hey chad, no need for apologizing for the length of post, personally i think the longer more informative the post, the easier it is for us to accurately help you diagnose the problem.  I'm not a hydro guy, but my experience with auto's is is that they sometimes act weird, like grow slower sometimes (mostly cuz they are growing like crazy underground), I had one one time that the cotyledon leaves stayed for like 3 weeks and got huge with no center growth in sight, that plant ended up yielding like 6 oz's.  And I don't think you did anything with the Fox Farms at full strength either, cuz your plants would be burnt up (I would think).  And Fox Farms charts their ppm's are way more than any other nutes that i've used, and i have heard a lot of people talk about how hot FF is, I personally have never had a problem and have always started full strength from seed and growing in FF Ocean Forest and in coco coir.  Oh one more thing, I always double check my ph pen against some drops just to make sure it's calibrated.  Only saying cuz the brown spot thing sounds like cal/mag which would be due to it not being available (ph), seeing how you said your adding it already.  Good luck man, happy growing.

Yep keep an eye on the ph pen! I just had problems and it ended up my ph pen was off which caused me to have to flush for 3 days and redo a 30 gal reservoir...real pain in the ass for just a small thing that could have been caught if I had stayed on top the the calibration!!!

              • Checked ph pen, have a blue lab pen as well as soil blue lab pen. They are with a point of one another. Like .1. The cal mag have to add weather I change res or not. The sledgehammer says to add to rdwc weekly on website. Not on feeding chart. I assume it’s to keep system flowing.

                • Look familiar ? This is a Zn deficiency. Give her a dosage of micro nutes.

                  • How do the roots look? My understanding of FF nutrients is they are not great for hydro  and any nutrient mix that burns my plants in hydro at full strength gets tossed out. Must be hell on a soil grow.

When you get it dialed in your going to need to leave 2 of those totes empty. I have 6 site system in a 4 X 8 area and its really 2 sites to many.

                    • The roots are white, but just don’t seem to be growing fast at all. Not sure how far along they should be for autos but the biggest one has the most. The small one has a a small tail . The other 2 not much. Which is why I’m using top feed as well. Not sure how long I should keep that going

                    • Top feeding is a good thing and I would keep it going until Flower and then maybe beyond. I do it manually until the roots are a few inches into the grow site water. How much of an air gap do you have between the bottom of the net pot to the water?

Are you using hydro guard? How big is your air pump? What about your water temps? Your problem looks familiar but I cant remember what caused it, over feeding is part of it.

When you use the sledge hammer do you dump the mix or add nutrients to it. Most of those flushing agents like Sledge Hammer kill all the good bacteria in your roots and reservoir

                      • No been using kangaroots, was told not to use hydroguard with it. Air pump is activeaqua 15 l/min. According to pahydo should large enough with fall ponics, they also said don’t leave air gap. Temps are set at 69 with chiller. Adding sledgehammer to reservoir once a week per fox farms webpage because rdwc. When it was showing some issues I did straight water with sledgehammer, and after short while drained system. Then add nutrients at reduce amount. I have blue rain drum that I fill with water add nutrients one at a time and use aeromixer- then pump back into reservoir once temp ph and everything else looks correct. Leaves don’t have that wilting look at base so much anymore, but still getting brown spots on the leaves. Need to get some photos of that up close. I’m adding calmag once a week whether I change out reservoir. Ph is staying steady at 5.9-6.0. Did do a calibration on pen and it was dead on. Even temps on pen match with chiller match up. Highest temp has got is 81, most of time it is 76, and lowest was 67 today. Have humidity swings of 50-70.usually humidity is when I forget to fill humidifier. I’m sure I’ll get it dialed in.

                        • you definitely need an air gap

in my opinion, you need to reduce the strength of all the nutrients and supplements you're adding

By any chance, do you own a Corvette?

                          • No don’t own corvette.I would never get out of it. Lol. So the nutrients were originally full strength which was my bad for following fox farm schedule and listening to different opinions. But I cut them down to 1/4 of what schedule of what the schedule said, and only added calmag, b12 and silica after I started showing some problems. I believe the reason they said no airgap to start was because of depth of net pots, they said to lower water level after roots were more established (I think, would have to go back and watch video). I’m sure there was some other mistake along the road. I’m not giving up on rdwc(to much money invested in it now) here some photos of first grow in soil, yielded 9 oz dry weight from 4 plants. A couple critical purples, purple sunset and a Bruce banner.
