Ebb & Flow With Coco

Gonna try a SOG in the ebb and flow as soon as I get that auto out of there.

Anyway I am thinking 1 gallon cloth bags of coco & perlite and flood the table 3 times a day for 10 minutes? How does that sound? Should I put clay pebbles in the bottom of the bag? What are your thoughts?

    • I'm not a Coco grower, so I'm clueless, but why put Hydroton in the bottom?

I'd think it'll just work it's way up into your coco as it floods and drains.

I had to build a lid for my flood tray, cuz the hydroton floats so bad I'm scared it'll bubble over the sides when I flood!

      • I am thinking it will keep the coco on the bottom from sitting in water in case it doesn’t drain

        • I put 2" or so of pearlite @ the bottom but clay balls I think would be fine. I use 5gal, fabric pots. If you have a real flood tray they won't be sitting in any water. I flood 2 times for 30 min. each. Well a complete flood and drain takes 30 min actually. Don't be afraid to use some bio char or couple hands of worm castings in it either. I try and fool it to thinking it's soil instead of coco. haha funny I know. I have also put some of that rock stuff in the bottom as well can't remember the name of it real course grey color it's kinda like lava rock but small. They will grow in 1 gal. fabric pots but will suffer severely in yield. I've tried 1 gal pots myself, have used the baskets with clay balls. Been working this system for 8 or so years. So everything I have mentioned is things I have done and tried. Love to see you be successful!

          • perlite and clay pebbles are really for aeration. neither one has any real nutrient value. some people do the same thing with clones by layering their tray with pebbles or perlite so the roots can kinda spread out
