    • coco is very barren in comparison to peat. when i think of coco, i think of it more as a lattice, more less inactive, that nutrients flow through, a different kind of water culture. Microbes of a different kind.

isn't peat more of an active lattice with microbes and stored nutrients and microbe conversion of nutrients? same but different microbes, perhaps?

you know treating it the same as you would the peat based and adding your own mix of fungal mycorrhizae couldn't be too far off. matter of cultivating the right microbes.

      • Interesting take Mark D ! You might be overthinking it a bit he,he,he. Watering requirements are definitely different for both substrates, but if you wanted the best of both worlds, just throw 30% peat in to a coco sub. It will slow things down a little, and give the mycos a better place to hang out. Stick with endo fungi too. Peace

        • i guess if the HP isn't available make yer own  I say.

that is if peat is available on it's own

also do you recycle your soil? I take the stuff I grow in and set it to weather and rinse it clean. good to go with a little fresh added in. pH it and check it's ppm to be sure I have rinsed any excess salts out and Haven't had any difficulty with it. I have used the flushing agents and water to get rid of the heavy salts at the end of the cycles. you know the drill "only water"at the end. this helps too.

I just don' t throw it out, it just gets 'cycled in somewhere in the yard or garden, why not back to my girls?
