Planning that far out, you are way ahead of the game! Too many people get in a rush, and make mistakes.
Other than a new bulb when you need one, I wouldn't spend any more on the light.
As long as you leave the doors open, the heat shouldn't be an issue. Will you be able to leave it open during flower? If not, will you be around twice a day to open/ close it?
600 watt HPS is the most efficient of the HPS, so you're good there. Personally, I'd hang it as high as possible in the tent. That way, as the plant grows closer to the light, the intensity goes up.

Last time I had so many issues with the light and zero redundancy that I am still a little stressed out by thinking about it, but I should be good this time. First grow was completely head over heels. I ended up with 35 grams which was ok-ish for my needs but I knew I could do better. See if I can find a picture of it. Looked really weird in the end.
I think I can have the door open all the time really since it is winter now anyway, so it will be dark outside 12 hours or more of the day here.
On a sidenote, I cant quite figure out the thread structure on this fourm. That is to say, I cant see any threads really. Every post looks like a new one. Quite unusal, unless I am missing obvious.

I was thinking of just using the frame for the tent mostly, keep the doors wide open but I have not yet decided. I just remember finding the tent kind of practical.
Ok, I think got you, use the 600w but not invest anymore in it. I guess it works fine if I just keep it a little further away from the plant?
It is weeks if not months away anyway, still havent germinated the seeds yet, but I need to plan ahead since everything I need will be shipped by mail.
