Just take care of it and see what happens. Sometimes they hit a pocket of ferts and kinda get mutant. Maybe just fk'd up genes. Give it a chance.
It had really nice roots and was making good progress when I repotted and then it was downhill from there... You could be on to something with the nutrient pocket or something similar.
