The majority of bud rot I'm seeing is caused by moths. Chubbs makes a good point about the nitrogen but my theory is it's also the genetics are making weaker resistance compared to the old landrace varieties.
I agree I do think the change in genetics has something to do with it, and maybe climate change too if that's not fake news. On the other hand I think the climate is always changing and always has been changing
