Welcome to the portal! I prefer fem seeds and I think you will too. Fem seeds give you complete control over your growing time and they tend to be a lot less finicky. It does seem as if you are mixing up the difference between Scrog and sog, no worries. A Scrog will give you the best harvest for the space you have (imo) but read, study and ask questions here as you prepare to grow so that you can make your first time the best you can. Welcome!
