  its just in its genetics! dont make ur self have headaches tryin fix it..lot of times you will see the stripes and solid purple stems..some darker than others too..dont worry..just go with it...lol

red/purple stem can happen for a wide range or reason that in most case you don't need to worry about:

Stems can change colors for various reasons. Like the boys said I wouldn't worry about it .
