@  Stan...The only way this could happen is if there was a meristematic growing point somewhere on the base of the leaf . For that you'll need not only the leaf and petiole, but also a stem that contains a growing point. Similar to what happens when you prune a plant to develop more growing points. Leaves by themselves have no meristematic tissue. Peace
