Very little. Half teaspoon is enough. What it does is keep the oil dispersed in the water. You have to keep the mixture shook up as you're spraying but the spray will stop aphids and mites on contact. I have left it on my outdoor plants but you could also come back after 30 minutes or so and rinse it off along with the dead bugs.
