The U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in a case centering on whether the federal legalization of hemp can help a Pennsylvania man avoid a 15-year mandatory minimum sentence for gun possession that was triggered by his past marijuana convictions.
Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) said during a hearing that marijuana criminalization is one of the "root causes" that contribute to poverty and "create environments where violence proliferates" at a time when major politicians openly discuss their own cannabis use.
