So lets talk about CBD

by Screwstick about August 1 - report

I am interested in CBD strains, I grew one Supreme CBD from Nirvana, and all it did was put me to sleep, I don’t need help with that. I think it was a knock out weed because I let the trichs go probably 50% or more amber. At the time that was what I had read as the best time to harvest CBD strains. When I grew the Supreme CBD it was the popular opinion that 1:1 THC to CBD was the best ratio and maybe it is but I see a lot of strains out there that are high CBD and low THC. I assume they are breeding them for a reason

Since I want to find out what a high CBD strain is like so I have 2 Dinamed CBD Plus seedlings going in my Ebb & Flow. They are supposed to be less than 1% THC and 15% or more CBD. I am going to grow them like I would any other strain but what I dont really know is when to harvest them. SLB mentioned doing some testing on some high CBD plants and I know that will be good info. Does anyone else have experience with CBD growing and or consuming CBD strains? Black Sugar Rose is supposed to be a very high CBD strain how was that? Should I grow them any differently than I would a THC strain?

Since a 50/50 mix of clear and cloudy trichs gives more an up kind of high it seems like the same would be good for a CBD if you don’t want a knockout smoke. On the other hand maybe since the THC is low its not the color of the trichs or maybe CBD just knocks you out and kills pain that way.

There are no wrong answer here, I am just making conversation to learn.

I hope you keep us posted on how this turns out! I have been thinking about trying a cbd strain, being in construction for all of my life except for the time in the army I am in pain daily and would really like to try making some type of cbd topical medication for back pain. The thing I worry about is spending 4 months growing plants and not getting the results I hope for.

I'm taking it in and hoping to learn more myself. My understanding is that CBD works better with some thc mixed with it. The stuff I grew was supposed to be like the that 15:1 ratio you're talking about. Keep us posted and I'll do the same.

Awesome Toke, I think a good mix is the best plan so I will give that a try. There are lots of people out there that have worse problems but nerve damage still sucks. Thanks

@SLB, have you checked the THC of the of the CBD plants you grew? Just curious what kind of effect you get from a low THC plant

I have not yet. My buddy has the higrade scope so I'll get him to check it. I'm thinking about making some edible oil if it is, in fact, a real low tch. Mixed oil should be an easy way to experiment with it.

That is a great idea, I love mixing my own strains but the dispensary's around me dont seem to have much of a CBD selection if they have any at all

Cbd is legal, so they have stores just for cbd.
We also have dispensaries, never been to one here. Price tooo high with low quality.

The weed they sell in dispensaries up here has been a disappointment so I dont expect the CBD strains to be any better so no I am not trying very hard.

I have found that the people i grow for really like a strain that has a good amount of cbd along with the thc content. I feel the same way about this. I believe the essential ingredients combined with the thc help to create a nice buzz that can be used to either get up and do something or smoke more of it and take a nap.  Peace

Have you found anything to boost the CBD in the plants you grow?

Which strain did they prefer or what "good amount" do they like best? Most of the Nirvana strains seem to be 0.1-1.0% unless they have CBD in the name. Twenty Four looks like it is a very high CBD strain with not much THC.

you do know that when/at harvest if you let your plant realy/realy  get "ripe" this brings out the CBD in that specific plant

What I have been reading lately is harvest at mostly or all milky, the amber brings out the CBN not the CBD.

I have never heard of growing a strain high in CBD any differently than one that's not. I have heard that if you suffer from chronic pain a more balanced ratio is more beneficial as far as a pain medicine. Maybe it's the combination of both that the plant develops naturally and when we concentrate it to a CBD oil it anything else it's taking away from the chemical properties that work together for optimal results.
