Anyone use this watering system?

by justme about April 9 - report

I would try coco coir if I could find a self watering system like this that someone had used and recommend. Anyone know anything about this system? Walmart has a surprising selection of hydroponic and grow supplies! More than they did have. I could believe how much they have now. About anything you want it seemed to me. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Autopot-Smart-Pot-6-Pot-XL-System-with-25-gallon-flexi-tank/786714492 thanks for looking.

These are built to fit a number 5 Smart Pot. They have a tray with a float in them.

Walmart, Lowes and Home Depot sell hydro setups online these days. They may get even more popular for growing veggies and such soon.

I looked at systems like that before I went with RDWC and I didnt like that it only feeds at the bottom. I would go with something like Pipes has setup and auto feeds from the top. Now that the plants in my Ebb & Flow table are getting bigger I switched it over to a top feed and so far its working great.

@ Ida, I just raise the water level to reach the bottom of the roots. This grow I used the ebb and flow cart to get the roots going but it is a little slower starting so I will probably go back to just raising the water level.

Pipes makes a good point about controlling water temps in RDWC so plan on a chiller.

Ok so let me break this down, 4 pots, a 12 gallon res, $225.00? I'll pass!

My cheap ass system feeds up to 15 plants, uses a 20 gallon res for veg and a 30 gallon for flower and it cost under $100. Some plants drink more than others that's where an adjustable emitter comes in hand.

Also throw in a small pump with an airstone for $20 to keep your nutes aerated and prevent your nutes from getting gunked up.

Definitely better off building your own.

That's all depending on the plants size. Mid to late flower I top off once a week and a new batch of nutes once a week. So if I have a fresh res on Saturday I top off about Wednesday and reload on saturday.
When my plants are fed the timer is set for 1 mi...  more

I sure wish you would give me the information on how to build this system for the 20 pots i use. All i need is a 25 gallon res to make this work for me, but i need to know what size pipe, connectors, timers, etc. to get. Peace

Looks pretty cool. Just make sure you are able to keep water/feed in the resevoir cool enough in your new space. Are you in a basement?

In dwc or rdwc you have water in your pots 100% of the time, it's what your roots grow in but that water and them pots are always under the light so of course the temps of that water is gonna rise. Anything over 72 degrees is where your gonna lose oxygen ...  more

Not bad at all...the system that is. Problem is Walmart. I've looked at a lot of their stuff and everything is over priced. I suspect they are using their name and presence to gouge the hell out of people. It's the extra price they charge the vender for exposure that you are paying for.

And Walmart uses FedEx for shipping and in my area FedEx is unreliable plus they are usually to lazy to drive up my driveway so they leave packages at the end of the driveway 100+ yards away.

Understand Screw, I'm not fond of them either but, in my location, we don't have a lot of choice. Imo, Walmart has had to lower itself in order to accommodate it's customers. You know where I live, lol!

I think the prices are way too high myself, and i want to just purchase the materials and build a system myself. I just need to figure all this out. I was hoping Pipeman would give me a hand with this project, and he may come around to doing that at some time. If you have the money you can get things going pretty quick with one of these systems imo. I just don't have that kind of money to put out. Thank you so much for the information.  Peace

Thanks for all the replies. I agree that if I spend this much money I would have put it to better use by going with RDWC with the cooler and Blue Lab Ph doser. Just wanted to hear all your thoughts on this self watering system. Thanks and happy growing my friends!!
