Never Top, LST or Defol Autos.

by Screwstick about February 13 - report

Well the rumors are correct, you shouldn’t, LST, top, or defol an auto, look at these sad little things. They are ugly but that is my fault.

The 1st picture is a tiny little PAE auto, ugly little thing

the 2nd picture is a sad little Sweet Tooth auto that the tap root rotted off after the 2nd set of true leaves popped out. I re-rooted it just for the hell of it, its the same age as the PAE, good thing I don’t have a calendar in the grow room because it doesn’t know its drop dead date is predetermined

3rd picture is a tiny little PAE bud, smells great but its fluffy not very hard.

4th is a cutting I re-rooted to test my DIY clone machine, it had one little bud on it when I rooted it and it went without water in the cloner  for over a day because the timer died. Actually the light was on like it was running but it wasn’t.

I agree with the myths and rumors, when it comes to Autos the best thing you can do is don’t.

If you grow autos and you want them to be monsters feed the grow nutes for longer then transition to bloom nutes when they are half the size you want them to be. Of course this is just one grow and more testing is needed just not by me

Looks pretty damn good for a failed grow, lol! Autos are what they are...a work in progress and I've seen a lot of progress. Those breeders of autos that come up with good ones are laughing all the way to the bank because if you want your room full of autos, you pay good money for each and every seed.

Yes is that what you want? You can continue by breeding those together and get about 25% autos, then you pick a male and female auto from those to produce regular autos. Sounds like you just want the genes of the auto to produce a photoperiod? Is it not a...  more

I defoliate, lollipop and tie branches down on my auto's, but i do not top or FIM them. I find that having an even canopy and training the plant where all bud sites get plenty of light is the best way to go. I know some people Top/FIM their auto's, but only certain strains take to that very well. The only issue it the time it takes for the plants to get over the stress.....that's why you don't want to stress an auto out. If the auto's had a longer life i believe Topping/FIM'ing would not be an issue.  Nice grow.  Peace

So what happens if you stress them? Male hermi's, lol. Sorry.
Anyway I don't see where stressing them is any different that stressing a photoperiod and these get stressed weekly and it sure hasn't slowed them down in growth. Is that what makes the buds fluffy?
