Bulb Out

by Cdrombo about September 11 - report

I woke up today noticing that my 600w HPS light went out in my 18/6 Auto Tent.

thank goodness for my camera i saw it went out at 8:05 last night..... we are going on 13 hours since the light went out.

In general am I ok until I get home from work tonight ( at this point we will be at 20 hrs darkness) or should I leave work to get the replacement in place ASAP...?

I think im ok , i thought these bulbs were good for 3 years... ( going on 18 months ) , then i checked the Hortilux Website this morning to see it recomends replacements every 8-9 months .

So what kind of bulb was it and how many hours did you have on it so we can learn from it? I have never had a  bulb go out on me they just get dim.

I know lot of people that will not believe this but you should change your bulbs every two grows. Bulbs do not last long. They are like us old people we get weaker by the day same with Bulbs.

I use eye hortilux super hps JUST FOR FLOWER! After 3 flowering grows the bulb gets replaced. I've been using eye hortilux for years never had an issue but you need to be careful who and where you buy your bulbs from and as soon as you get it do a thorough inspection. Shit does happen!

Dark leaks, that’s a new one. Tell the plant it’s a cloudy day and it will be fine. I just started using HID lighting so I don’t know much about the life expectancies but I used an MH bulb in veg and HPS in flower except the last 2 weeks I am going back to MH. I check the light strength periodically with a lux meter and I keep spares just in case.

You're fine...they just took a long nap...agree with PM...switch them out every three grows...you won't notice the degradation...but your plants will!!

I replace my flower bulb every grow. Just personal preferance. Eye Hortilux Super HPS. I keep a new but tested one on reserve at all times in case one goes out. That long nap won't hurt your plants. Happy growing my friend!
