Heavy foxtailing and early yellowing

by Tomwel187 about September 11 - report

Hey guys so been super busy with work lately sorry haven’t been on much but the ladies are still growing like crazy. This is my 2nd run and the plants are not looking nearly as nice as the first run. These are all clones. Some blue dream clones and some lemon og haze. I have one bag seed plant growing now and it actually is the healthiest out of all and has the most trichomes. I harvested a plant yesterday just because the leaves were getting way to yellow even the sugar leaves on it were super yellow and foxtails were coming out like crazy on it. A few plants are looking really yellow early on so this has me concerned. My veg plants are doing awesome though. I am growing in ffof soil and Advanced nutrients jungle juice bloom and grow. Then early flower have been using liquid kool bloom and later flower dry kool bloom. It has been a pain in the ass mixing nutrients because plants are drinking water differently and with them being on different nutrient schedule. Also using botanicare cal-mag in veg 1/2 teaspoon per gallon and in flower full teaspoon

most foxtailing is caused by heat. what are your temps? are the yellowing leaf happening on the lower part of the plants or all over?

i suggest using the buds and trim to make some edibles or even dry ice hash.

Now the heat temperature is been in between 68-75 before early flower the temps got upward of 90 :(

Yupp.. heat has always caused early browning and foxtailing in my case.

i’ve never seen such nipples! as said above, it’s hot in there and you also may have your (hps?) light too close. personally i raise my lights in late mid bloom to encourage some fox tailing so that i stack buds. overall tho, i find indica responds well to it while sativa did get carried away. so, that’s a good mistake. now u know more and all above and many others can guide you to more ideal conditions. i’d like to add another point: i grow on a similar schedule. for me, one comes out one goes in. i have four strains baking at different stages in the oven, but i find if i keep simple notes and check my totes everyday we are good, and it allows for a better formula grow, making mixing nutes individualized instead of using a 5gal hedpack hoping that four plants and four different stages can take the same nutes... never works out unless i just use base and calmag. why deprive liquid kool bloom on those other ones... i love LKB! i feed it to NL as much as i want and created award winning buds, especially with a dash of c/m and have never had a burn problem. i’m sorry i babble... just finished my morning bowl... i mean breakfast.

not raise lights... lower or bring plant closer to hps... no more than the sunlight band allows.

Ya definitely the lights were really close to the plants the plants got way to tall on the preflower stretch it gets insane early on doing supercropping techniques to try and limit the height but they still get huge

First I would try to figure out why this is happening and most likely it’s from heat. Then look at back building on GWE.com. I had some foxtails early in my grow from heat so I cut them off and got the temperature down and the buds have fattened up nicely

Hey ss, I couldn't find the article on gwe. Got a link? All of my buds are foxtailing at week 8 of flower. Ugly, but they are still big colas and bulking up late in flower.

Sorry Bill it wasnt GWE its 420. I just gave them a crew cut and it worked great, I think Roscoe did this on a recent grow too.

foxtails suck even if theyre the 'good' kind cause theyre hard to trim around when harvest comes. I was disgusted to see my first batch of 4 Tangie clones all foxtail. Admitedly the tent had been a bit too hot and the plants had grown up a bit too close to my LEDs.

With my second batch of 6 Tangie clones, i took great precautions to keep the heat down, increased the airflow and kept a close eye on my LED height. this second batch may have had two buds barely start to foxtail but not nearly as bad.

Hope that sheds some light (no pun intended)

shb- that’s a great observation as the gsc i just took out the oven that had some larger nipples on them, making the trim more painstaking. about an hour and 1/2 into it, i just cut a couple and put them in my popcorn bag for concentrate.

Just to get this outta the way...your buds are Stacking...Not Foxtailing...pet peeve...heads are spinning! hee hee! If I remember correctly, you have ample air circulation and air exchange...so you can control heat issues...do you have one? heat issue?...your plants look far into flower, how long ago did they trigger?...did you stagger your grow? Or flip at same time?
