My first indoor grow

by Southernbred420 about August 5, 2019 - report

So this is my fist indoor grow. I have fox farm soil and i have used ph balance to make the water the best for the plants. I also have a 60 watt led spectrum grow light with 6 stages of dimmable light. Im on the 5th stage with red and blue lights. I can use all blue or all red or spectrum/mix. Looks like leaves are dying on one plant but the other is great. What could i be doing wrong. Should i be using all blue lights, or do i need more light and less water? Help please.

400 watt HPS on seedlings that are only a couple days old? Better have a high ceiling to raise that puppy.

First, throw that soil meter away. I've never seen one worth the packaging it came in.

Second, which FF soil? If it's Ocean Forest, it may be too hot for you seedlings.

Right soil, but it looks like you're too wet. Let your soil dry out more before you water again.Seedlings do better in a drier soil, it makes the roots stretch out looking for water.
And I wouldn't get too worried about it. Once it dries out some, it sho...  more

I only dabble in the indoor but there are some awesome indoor growers on this forum. I can tell you your light won't cut it for finishing a plant indoors...maybe can help with sidelighting but just not enough power to grow out a plant. Natural light pics will tell us a lot more but you may have your soil way too wet. Seedlings don't need much water. My advice is to get some better lighting and go from there.

I have a different lifht setup for when they get bigger with selectable 400 watt 600 watt and 1000 watt super lumen. Just was trying the smaller 60 watt while these are babies haha.

You got the right soil (Fox Farms Happy Frog). That is perfect for starting seeds or for growing autos in! Just give her time. She is growing roots. KEEP IT DRY! Only a few drops of water out around the seedling and a lite fan breeze. These plants like it dry!! Too much water will drown them expecially at this delicate seedling stage! You have drain holes in your pots don't you? I think if you will let your soil dry out it will take off. I think just too much water and you will need that grow light way above the seedling. They can't take a whole lot of light when they are in the seedling stage either. Only give it enough light to keep it from stretching and falling over. Just a single bulb CFL is plenty for a seedling. I think you are using too much water by the way you ask your question. You would be better off to set them out in the open under natural light to take your pictures also. It is hard to tell much from a picture under any grow light. The hardest part of the seedling stage for me is patience! Something you must have throughout the whole grow! Mainly at the beginning and the end! Good luck and happy growing my friend!

Make sure you don't put them in direct sun without hardening them off or it will kill them! Have you been doing this before? Be careful to not get pest on them either! I would never take my indoor plants outside.

    welcome to weedportal!

my advice to a new grower is dont over water. especiallly for a seedling.  common mistake for new growers is to overwater. Also when you DO water, use pH'd water.

an easy fool-proof way to grow a seedling is using a cheap CFL light. the reason is because they wontburn the seedling like a massive grow lamp will.  one quick question. This is just a guess...are you growing in separate pots or one big one?

and finally, if you want to grow weed you will need to do your homework by reading the info in this website  growweedeasy.com

those pics of baby looks fine..a lot of times when a new seedling looks like it stoped growing but still looks healthy its making roots and will take off when its ready..dont kill it by watering it to death..lol and also those babies dont need to be fed yet..they can go 2 weeks or more b4 feeding..GL

Only a little bit of water every 3 days or so, about 1/2 cup should be enough for awhile. With ff happy frog you really don’t need any nutrients for 3 or 4 weeks just water and calmag ph around 6.5

Congrats on your first grow, lots of good advice here, I wanted to ask what your actual draw from outlet is if using LED,s that number divided by your grow space sq footage and that number should be close to 35-45 for optimal yield.
