Panama Red

by airplane about July 22 - report

Dr Greeb Thumb Seeds -- these are 100% sativa lances  ($150.00) - reason I mentiioned this is because of this: they recommend

12/12 from seed then may be flowerd at 10/14 photoperiod and 36hr dark time used at flowering on set for faster harvest.

So   12/12 then 36hrs dark then10/14  ??? thoughts

in realtion to flower time I use a 11 light /13 dark instead of 12/12 - and have seen postive results meaning faster rooting

new way to grow 100% sativa's ( heard of dark times at end for harvest but never in transition stage)

This is interesting, but can one hour difference give those kind of results? Also, would the root system really grow enough for a good yield growing this way? I am not sure that 12/12 from seed would give the plants enough time to grow a root system that would support a really good yield. I am just rambling on and asking questions out of thin air Airplane, so don't pay much attention to me. Are you going to try this or have you already tried it? There are so many different ways people are growing these days, so i don't rule anything out. Thanks my brother.  Peace

I ordered one of my buddies a pack of Original Glue. He started one off on 12/12 with 3 plants he already had in flower and it is doing great. It is 36 inches tall and covered with flowers. One huge “leg sized” cola and 4 nice big side colas. It is in a #...  more

a plant needs at least 13 hrs dark to start rooting (backed up by science) actually it's 13 13.5 hours of dark. many. many cutlivators do this ( Kevin Brody is one of many - i understant 12/12 worked but 11/13 is better + in reduces total flower time by 1 week

I've alsways given a 24 hr dark period when I flip. It helps the plants "change gears" from growing, to flowering.

I've read all kinds of things about light period manipulation. A lot of it said that while a longer dark period WILL speed up the harvest, it will also decrease yield.

Idk plane, imo if you are going to use 10/14 or even 11/13, you really need good lighting. Btw, I'm sceptical it really is a panama red landrace and, even if it is, that schedule sounds wierd to me.

Panama red was like the Cadillac of weed back in the 70s. I wouldnt mind growing one but I'd probably just do normal lights

A lot of Sativas are grown with an early flip...their justation, and very large post flip growth almost demands it...unless you got the room and the lights...11/13 is just fine with Sativas...no worries...they fill out great, and the time taken by a long flower is offset by the short veg time...seems like people just want to grow Indicas...what a shame

I made the mistake of vegging my Malawi for six weeks...and then a full 19 week flower...long time but Awsome weed...the Elephant Killer! Lucky I had the room...they can definitely get away from you!

A classic strain from back in the day. Never grown it but I've smoked it. I'm assuming that the 12/12 is for height control. I'm on the fence on straight to 12/12 because it's gotta be stressful on a tap root & a few feeder roots. Don't know slot about light manipulation but the basic flip or reducing light till you get to 12/12 or whatever you want

I'm sure it does but I'm thinking about the root development not having the chance to develop. I'm always interested in learning something new. Looking forward to your updates if your grow. You always have something useful information to share.

That would be amazing to grow original Panama Red or a few others like Columbia Red or Acupolco Gold. How woiuld you know it was a true landrace seed? It's not like the seeds are marked like a vintage Les Paul, lol. I'd hate to put the time and $$ into a 6 month grow and end up with a Nirvana freebie Sativa! I guess you would have to trust someone that they had the original seeds.

I am unsure of why more darkness would damage the ability to grow roots as some have questioned. Plants put on more growth during dark periods . I can't imagine root growth would be any different.
