Ready for an update on my auto grow?

by harley24 about January 12 - report

I have 17 ak48 auto's in my 6' X 7' grow area. My tallest plants are 32". These girls are in week 3 of flower. I have used lst on these plants, some defoliation of larger fan leaves and will do some lollipopping in a few weeks. I will also pluck larger fan leaves that cannot be tucked out of the way of light when it is neccessary. At week 3 i started tying the main colas down so most of the side branches would catch up and give me many colas instead of just one main cola. When you look at the pictures you can see this has worked very well with this strain. The plants get a strict regiment of nutrients every day. I do not feed until i have runoff, but give enough liquid to reach the bottom of the containers. I do not have a lot of lower bud sites, but the light does penetrate to where it is needed. I am using 4 king LED 1200 watt lights. I feel that with auto's you can grow as many as you can fit in your grow space and still have room to feed them. I also think you need to use at least 3 gallon containers to ensure a good root system. I am using 3 gallon fabric containers. I use rapid start and great white for my root system, and i use the GH Flora series nutes along with calimagic, hydroguard, terpinator, liquid & dry koolbloom and Mad Farmers N.U.T.S.  This strain grows very fast when they start flowering, so i am looking for a pretty good yield with this grow. I will continue to tie the tallest colas down for at least a couple more weeks, or until they stop growing upwards. This will give each plant an even canopy and many colas, most of which will be the same size i hope. This is my first grow with ak48 auto's, but i think since i can't get any more swiss cheese auto seeds that i may grow this strain again. I will post another update in a few weeks. Maybe i can beat my yield with at least one of these plants, which would need to be over 2 ounces. Peace

Looking good and healthy! Love the LST and your plan to lollypop. Won't be long til you pull some good bud. How much space are you keeping between light and canopy?

Thanks SBL, and i am keeping about 2.5 ft. distance from light to canopy. Of course it varies with the different tallness of the plants. I found that doing some lollypopping slowly from about week 6 to 8 can really help with auto's, or at least imo. I lik...  more

What are you talking about, that's a great job with just 5 plants! I learned when i first started growing auto's that you are not going to get a huge yield from them no matter what you do really. I mean, once in a while you will get a plant or two that gi...  more

    They look great.

Is that 32 inches for the plant or the pot and the plant?

The tallest plants are around 32" tall themselves, not including the container. Peace

Sweet grow.. autos rock.. Nice to know another strain that likes listing.. the only auto I found for it to be pretty useless is the lemon og haze auto.  Bubble, Jock and NL seem to love it.

This strain is a good one for lst'ing. It grows fast and stays healthy, allowing you to do this, but i still take it very slow so as to not stress the plants. Peace

great information and grow !!!! what size pot do you think is the 'universial" size - be it auto of photo - 5 gallon is/was the norm - have fpound that aftyer cycle the root system still has room after grow ( upon examization of root ball) thinking of a 4 gallon , therefor nont wasting any room and geting a plant of two more in space and have good root development. Maybe 3 gaalon ? might be too small ?  thoughts ???

I guess an all-round pot size would be 5 gallon imo. With auto's i like the 3 gallon because most of them only last for 3 months with maybe a week or two added on sometimes. With photo plants i like to veg for 8 weeks, so they need, imo, at least a 5 gall...  more
