Storing Pollen

What is the best way to store pollen and will it stay viable long enough for back crossing?

If I remember correctly you want to make sure all the plant matter is removed from any pollen you want to store and you can seal it up in a zip lock or test tube and toss it in the freezer.

Is there anything else I need to know? I would love for this to stay potent until I get time to pop the siblings and pollenate them. Is that at all possible?

    • Like you said CPW, remove any debris, and cut you a small piece of parchment  paper . Take the pollen and put it in the parchment paper, then fold it up like grams of coke you used to buy...he,he,he. Then take that and put it in a air tight container, like a instant coffee container with a screw on lid, and put it in the freezer. As a added option you can also put a dessicant in with the pollen but that's not totally necessary. I've stored pollen like this that lasted for years. Peace and Happy New Year

      • Thanks, btw I have never done coke, I saw too many lives ruined or lost because of it, if I had tried I would have been one of them

      • Pollen can be very fragile, it has roughly a 1 year shelf life if stored correctly and moisture kills pollen on contact so be careful when putting it in the freezer.
