Coco Coir

Does anyone use a mulch on top of the coco to slow the drying out process? If so what kind of mulch? Switching to coco next grow.

    • Coco tends to harden a bit on top as is but if your not into watering every day by hand or an auto feed system I wouldn't recommend using it . Its a hydro method and needs to be wet all the time.

        • I agree with cpw but if you really want to slow the drying process down a bit try mixing a little soil moist in with your Coco and perlite.

          • Thanks PipeMan69. How much should I use of the soil moist in a 10 gal fabric pot of coco and perlite? I defiantly do not want to add too much lol. Thanks

            • That I couldn't tell you. I use an auto feed system but I used to use it when I was growing in soil.

              Sorry brother.

                • I grow in coco loco and don't have any issues with it drying out to fast. Now that I have switched to an auto watering system I don't soak the soil but moisten it several times a day. It seems to really be working well.

                    • vermiculite is for moisture retention and perlite is for aeration. theres also a small amount of nutrient value to vermiculite

                      • Is that the same stuff the Australians eat on sandwiches?

                      • Earthworm castings are a good soil topper for your coir and perlite mix.
