I believe in aerating my water and nutes before watering the girls . Aerating does raise the PH and I read that it raises the PH without affecting the alkalinity . Ok... say I have a gallon of nutrients that I PHed to 6.0 . After I aerate it the PH is 6.6 ( outside the range of 5.5 to 6.5 ) Would this still benefit me to use this ?

    • Water temp. will also affect ph...

      • As for me I want the ph to be in the range I want it no matter what, weather it be aeration temperature ect. In other words when the nutrient solution is going to my plants I want it in range no matter what. This is my personal preference and don't insist that anyone has to do things like I do!!!

        • Do you have an air stone in your Ebb & Flow res?

          • i got 5 air stones in my res. and run 24/7...

          • You know ,and this is just me, I make sure my pH is in range, then again after my solution sits a bit before I put it in the tanks. When mixing, I get aeration through  vigorous shaking of my mixing containers. Stirring vigorously works the same.

pH flexs all over the place, especially if you spend time watching it. My solution, nail it once and be sure its the same when I go to use it.

I found plants only get sensitive if they go over and lock out, then it's tough to drag them back. So up or down, you don't want it to range out of your soils pH range. Not all soils have the same range.

            • I Aerate the water in my Ebb & Flow and my Auto Feed for Coco reservoirs and I also aerate all the grow sites in my RDWC. I have to adjust the PH down in the reservoirs periodically and I use a gallon of PH Up in the RDWC every grow. No clue why

              • The autopots are aerated in the base so my tanks are pretty much sitting except once a day or so to check levels.

tank aeration in autopots slimes up the lines and  makes them useless, so less or none is better. I started with a small circ pump in the tanks, but it only heated the water and increased the slime factor! Not to mention increasing ppm by evaporation. so no motors or air pumps.

now switching to super soil and water makes it even easier. no fuss, no muss, just water mostly. haven't succeeded with it yet, but I am optimistic

                • Hulk do you hand feed? Do you use any coco? or just FF

                  • Just Fox Farm, Happy Frog, then Ocean Forest. I hand feed kinda primative but I have a 5 gal bucket I use with 1/4" water line which is gravity fed. This is the firs time watering this way wanted to try something new I love the flow that comes out I think its perfect for a nice root soaking, just need to remember to stir constantly or nutrients and especially microenzyme powder clump at bottom

                    • see? you would benefit from an air pump and airstone. I think

                    • depends on how you grow I have no problems with stuff clogging up...and my water is chilled so no temp problems either...I been saying this for years us an aquarium power head instead of a pump then you don't heat the water...a power head will pump and aerate at the same time and not heat your water...

                      • Too technical for me lol!!! I am a bit too old school to be able to give any pointers…but if you need any advice outdoors would be happy to share my little experience anytime…Good luck and happy growing
