Hey people !

I haven't been here in awhile because of some technical difficulties but I'm back . I hope everyone has been well and the weed gremlins have been treating you good. I just want to get some opinions on buffering new coco. I wash my new coco till I get the same parts per million as my flush water ,( about 28 ppm ) then soak over night with Cal Mag, and ph to 6.0 . This brings my PPMs to 400  . And now my question .... Should I rinse my coco again with plain water ? I plan to start some seeds directly into this coco in solo cups.

    • welcome back!

im not a coco guy so this interests me. Ive always heard that coco tends to hold onto calmag.

cant wait to hear from the others

      • since coco literally has nothing in it, now you have coco with 400 ppm of calmg in it leaching off. make up your seedling solution 400ppm mild nutes, run it through first, plant and off you go. Keep it moist and not overly wet all the time you do not let coco get "dry". It's a life line to those of us who tend to be heavy waterers and like seeing it moist.  You are providing all the nutrients and pH should be your target pH.

You can adjust watering frequency by the amount of perlite added to your mix. if  you want to stretch it out to once a day you want less perlite, constant drip or in my case bottom feed, 50% perlite is what you want.

hope my ramblings will be useful

        • Thank you Mark D for the info. I am also using coco and you just taught me something as well.

          • Since I started using premixed Coco/Perlite I haven't done any treatment but I usually wet it down with Cal/Mag and Tribus or Orca PH'd to 6.0. I have a auto watering setup and it waters 2-4 times a day, and I do the same on the Ebb & Flow. The Ebb & Flow seems to give me a little more growth but that may be my imagination
